Baptism

Jesus came near and said to them, “All authority has been given to me in heaven and on earth. Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe everything I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
Matthew 28:18-20 CSB
As we seek to be a church that makes disciples who make disciples, we follow the Great Commission in baptizing and teaching believers to obey what Jesus taught. Here is what we believe about baptism:

Baptism is commanded in Scripture for all who have become believers

For all believers, Baptism is a step of obedience to the Great Commission. For almost 2,000 years the church has followed this command that Jesus instituted at his ascension. When we are baptized, we are walking in obedience the the commands of our Lord and following the model of the church since it began.

Baptism is a public declaration of the inward heart change done by the Holy Spirit

The moment we become believers, the saving work of Christ rescues, reconciles, and renews us. This work does not require baptism and baptism does not make the work any more valid. Baptism is a public declaration of what was done the moment we believed.

Baptism comes after becoming a believer

As we seek to make disciples who make disciples, baptism is a step of obedience that comes after someone becomes a believer. When someone is baptized at Cornerstone we have them share their testimony to publicly declare what the Lord has done.
