To Make His Glory Known

1 Samuel 4:18-7:17

At the start of 1 Samuel 5 the Ark of the LORD has bene captured, the high priest Eli and his sons are dead, and Israel has suffered its greatest defeat. The Ark of the LORD is in the hands of the Philistines and the Israelites are in no position to rescue it. As the Israelites feel the weight of how far they have fallen, the LORD shows how he makes his glory known without needing the help of any image-bearers.
